GIA Implements Workforce Reduction Strategy Amid Industry Slowdown https://24hourdiamondnews.com/gia/gia/ https://24hourdiamondnews.com/gia/gia/#comments Wed, 06 Sep 2023 23:25:55 +0000 https://24hourdiamondnews.com/?p=3068 The Gemological Institute of America recently implemented a workforce reduction strategy at its headquarters in Carlsbad, California.

As a response to the ongoing slowdown in the industry, the lab has let go of approximately 151 employees, primarily from the laboratory department as well as some corporate positions.

Stephen Morisseau, the GIA’s director of communications, stated that this decision was made due to a decline in the number of diamonds being submitted for grading. It’s important to note that the current economic conditions affecting the global gem trade have influenced many organizations in the industry. However, Morisseau assured that despite these workforce reductions, the GIA remains committed to its mission of consumer protection and will continue to meet the needs of its clients.

With a total workforce of around 600 in Carlsbad and approximately 3,500 employees globally, the GIA is steadfast in its dedication to the gem and jewelry sector.
