Synthetic Diamond
Synthetic diamonds, also called lab-grown diamonds or created diamonds, are man-made diamonds that are produced in a laboratory. They have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds but are created in a matter of weeks instead of taking billions of years to form in the earth’s mantle. Synthetic diamonds are less expensive than natural diamonds and can be produced in larger quantities.
The laboratory-grown diamond’s girdle is normally laser inscribed with the term “Laboratory-Grown” and its GIA report number. For loose, laboratory-grown D-to-Z color diamonds, weighing 0.15 – 3.99 carats.
Natural Diamonds | Nature’s Rarest Gift
Beautiful and rare, diamonds are one of nature’s most precious treasures. Born deep in the earth many millions of years ago they have already been on an incredible natural journey. They have survived through molten lava and volcanic eruptions, extreme temperatures and harsh terrains, yet they still retain their unrivalled beauty.
Natural diamonds, on the other hand, are formed deep within the earth’s mantle under high pressure and high-temperature conditions. They are mined from the earth and have unique characteristics that make them highly prized for use in jewelry. Natural diamonds are rare and can be quite expensive depending on their size, color, clarity, and other factors.
Diamond forms under high temperature and pressure conditions that exist only about 100 miles beneath the earth’s surface. Diamond’s carbon atoms are bonded in essentially the same way in all directions. Another mineral, graphite, also contains only carbon, but its formation process and crystal structure are very different. Graphite is so soft that you can write with it, while diamond is so hard that you can only scratch it with another diamond.
While both synthetic and natural diamonds share many of the same properties, natural diamonds have a certain mystique and rarity that make them highly valued by many people. Ultimately, the choice between a synthetic diamond and a natural diamond is a personal one that depends on factors such as budget, desired size, and personal preference.
